R.E.M. Frontman Michael Stipe Talks What Music Means to Him Ahead of Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction
R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe stopped by the Tribeca Film Festival red carpet on Wednesday night before participating in the Tribeca Talks Storytellers series. The event was hosted at the SVA Theatre in New York City by comedian Janeane Garofalo. Stipe was warmly greeted at the red carpet by a group of adoring fans. He stopped for autographs, photo ops, and even a conversation with us. We spoke to the legendary artist about the event and how he feels music impacts the world. His gratitude for his craft shined through in every word he spoke. With R.E.M. newly inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a new solo album in the works, and the recent release of four different photography books, the 64-year-old icon sure is keeping himself busy.
