'A Quiet Place' is one of the year's biggest, scariest hits — and you can see its first 9 minutes now (exclusive)
There have been plenty of enormous box-office hits in 2018, but arguably none more unexpected than A Quiet Place, writer-director-star John Krasinski’s eerily quiet supernatural thriller, which rode stellar reviews and audience enthusiasm to a gargantuan $326 million global gross ($186 million of which was earned here in the U.S.). Led by standout performances from both Krasinski and his wife, Emily Blunt, it stands as one of the year’s most acclaimed and beloved releases, and ahead of its eagerly anticipated home video debut Tuesday, we’re excited to present an exclusive scene from the film.
Those worried that watching the above clip might spoil key plot points can rest easy, since this is the opening nine minutes of A Quiet Place, which concerns a family (played by Krasinski, Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe) living in an America where silence is golden — because there are malevolent creatures stalking the land that attack anything they hear. That situation is expertly laid out by Krasinski in his tale’s introductory passage set inside a ramshackle store, where the clan searches for supplies while communicating via sign language. Alas, no matter their diligent efforts to remain undetected, their youngest member’s desire to take a battery-powered toy rocket soon leads to disaster, culminating in a pre-credit tragedy that’s as unexpected as it is harrowing.
That’s just the first of many surprises to be found in Krasinski’s blockbuster, and moviegoers intent on experiencing the rest of them can check out A Quiet Place beginning Tuesday, when it arrives on digital HD, with the 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD arriving July 10.
