How Prince Harry Is Signaling He’s Moving on From Royal Family Feud With Latest Edition of ‘Spare’

When Prince Harry released his memoir, Spare, in January 2023, he was there to mic drop the royal family. The book set a Guinness World Record for the fastest-selling nonfiction book and sold over six million copies worldwide — it was a huge success. Penguin Random House was announced on Aug. 26 that a paperback version would be available beginning Oct. 22, but the Duke of Sussex isn’t promoting the book this time around.

In the almost two years since Spare was published, Harry hinted that he’s ready to move on from the royal family feud. He’s more into reconciliation after sharing his side of the story of why he and Meghan Markle left the palace. Instead of adding a fresh chapter or two with updated information, the new publication will remain “unchanged,” per Penguin Random House’s statement. “The new edition will have the same cover image as the hardcover edition, a newly designed package and the contents of the book are unchanged.” That means his original version will stand the test of time.
Prince Harry had previously told The Telegraph that he had more stories to tell, noting in 2023, “The first draft was different. It was 800 pages, and now it’s down to 400 pages. It could have been two books, put it that way. And the hard bit was taking things out.” However, royal fans should have known that Harry wasn’t going to change a word. He told People in January 2023 why he’s standing by the hardcover book.
“I don’t want to tell anyone what to think of it and that includes my family,” Harry explained. “This book and its truths are in many ways a continuation of my own mental health journey. It’s a raw account of my life.” The Duke of Sussex seems to be embracing the new chapter in his life which includes a major focus on the Invictus Games and raising his young family in the private bubble of Montecito.
“Home for me, now, for the time being, is in the States,” Harry told the Today show in 2022. “And it really feels that way, as well. We’ve been welcomed with open arms and have got such a great community up in Santa Barbara.” Prince Harry is ready to put the past behind him, forge his future in California, and maybe — just maybe — find a way to mend the rift with his family.
