Pete Davidson Makes Surprise Appearance in Music Video for Eminem's New Single
Eminem released the first single, "Houdini," from his upcoming album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace) on Friday, as well as the star-studded music video for the track. And in addition to cameos from Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, and comedian Shane Gillis; Pete Davidson also pops up near the end of the video.
The video for "Houdini" starts with Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, sitting up in bed after receiving a call from Dr. Dre, who informs him that a portal to the year 2002 has opened. He's told that a younger version of himself traveled through, complete with his former trademark bleach blonde hair. The younger Em is unsurprisingly nonplussed by the selfie sticks, robot deliveries, and VR of 2024.
The younger and current day Eminem then appear onscreen together, rapping the lyrics to the song, which samples the Steve Miller Band's 1982 track "Abracadabra," interspersed with comic book-style superhero visuals. The 51-year-old even wears a similar superhero costume from the music video for his 2002 single "Without Me."
"Abra-abracadabra (And for my last trick)/I'm 'bout to reach in my bag, bruh (Like)/Abra-abracadabra (And for my last trick, poof)/Just like that and I'm back, bro," the duo raps on the chorus of the track.
Finally, near the end of the video, the younger and current day versions of Eminem battle it out in an epic fight and become fused together, with the rapper sporting longer blonde hair and his current dark beard, as additional clones begin to pop up all over the city.
After the new Eminem initially drives off with Dre, the "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang" rapper quickly gets fed up and exits the car, with Davidson taking his place. "Trust me, I'm a great driver," the 30-year-old comedian says before they speed away. "Don't worry, I just got my license back."
Davidson has been keeping a relatively low-profile since hosting Saturday Night Live last October. And although he has a handful of upcoming projects in the pipeline, he announced back in March that he had decided not to go forward with his Peacock series Bupkis, despite it having been renewed for a second season.
In the meantime, Davidson has been performing standup sets for his Prehab Tour, walking offstage during a recent show in Omaha after hecklers refused to let him finish his material without interruption.
Eminem has not revealed a release date for The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace), but the new album is expected to drop sometime this summer.
