25 Movies Critics Absolutely Hated, And Yet...These People Still Loved Them, Flaws And All
My favorite movie, Major Payne (1995), is considered a "BAD" movie, with a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but the predictable plot and quotable dialogue are so stupid that I think it's actually charming.
I'm so glad I'm not alone! Reddit user u/ThatIowanGuy asked, "What is your favorite 'Bad' movie?" People shared their favorite films despite their extremely low Rotten Tomatoes scores, and their terrible tastes have my full support!
Here are 25 reaaaalllly bad movies that are so terrible they're actually pretty awesome.

1.Last Action Hero (1993)
Suggested by u/Knowlesdinho
"One of the most quotable movies of all time. Top 5 favorite movies. It’s a classic. Also, Arnold is legitimately hilarious."
"Last Action Hero basically predicted the John Woo & Michael Bay era of US action films. It's genius."
2.Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991)
"Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. Surprised to see it is 35% on Tomatometer. I often use phrases from the movie like, "We are in the bowels of the fashion industry" IRL. Thoroughly enjoyable movie with a lot of drama."
"That movie is actually quite funny. I watched it for the first time in 20 years. I was surprised at how well it stood up and how clever some of the writing was.
Never trust Rotten Tomato reviews for old movies: They are small numbers of retro reviews of either people that loved or hated the film, so you don’t get an accurate overall review or snapshot at all."
3.The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
"I do love The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen."
"My friends and I still say, "THE SO-CALLED NAPOLEON OF CRIME" frequently. The line delivery in the movie is so hammy. Take a drink every time a character yells another's name in an overdramatic tone. You'll die."
4.Grandma's Boy (2006)
Suggested by u/KryptonicxJesus
"Critics criminally underrate most great stoner movies."
"I liked it. It's fine if you're in the mood for a stupid comedy. I met Shirley Jones a couple of years after this movie came out and interviewed her for my job. It was difficult to keep a straight face."
5.Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002)
Suggested by u/shrubery66
"Still waiting for the sequel. Goddamn, I’ve seen that movie so many times. My favorite line, personally, is when the two henchmen are following Ling and they’re peering around a corner. 'You go this way! I’ll go home!'"
6.Dude, Where's My Car? (2000)
"Dude, Where's My Car? A stupid, stupid movie. And yet, I love it and watch it frequently."
"I think critics just have an unjustified disdain for the late '90s, early 2000s comedies. I'm guessing they don't understand the humor."
7.Joe Dirt (2001)
"Joe Dirt with a 9% on RT. It has drama, plot twists, girls, and Kid Rock."
"Joe Dirt is the modern-day Odyssey, and I’m barely being sarcastic."
8.Super Mario Bros. (1993)
"The Super Mario Bros. movie. I know it's absolute rubbish, but I love it."
"I will go to my grave saying this movie is very underrated. Yeah, there's some stupid shit, and it basically has nothing to do with the original video game, but it's so over the top in its creativeness, it deserves something for that alone. And the dialogue is actually not bad at all."
9.The Postman (1997)
Suggested by u/Xellith
"Hell yes, the world wasn’t ready for Costner’s vision with The Postman. It’s so obnoxiously sentimental that I couldn’t help but love it. Plus, there’s a scene where Costner almost eats his ass, but like a literal ass. A donkey."
Growing up in the '90s, I loved The Postman and Waterworld; both really pulled at my imagination.
10.Showgirls (1995)
"Showgirls! Nomi taught me all I needed to know about pool orgasms."
"You know what, I rewatched it recently, and it’s actually enjoyable. The pool scene was ridiculous, and the horrible SA scene was awful, but it kind of lines up with the rest of the director’s bombastic satirical movies."
11.Van Helsing (2004)
Suggested by u/Medical-Pace-8099
"Best live-action werewolves of all time. Kate Beckinsale is also stunning, but that’s always the case."
"I freaking love this movie. The cast is great, and it's freaking FUN."
12.Rat Race (2001)
Suggested by u/Id20r
"This is one of the best comedy movies of all time. ... I'm honestly shocked the RT score is below 50%."
"The sequence where Jon Lovitz’s family steals Hitler’s car and then crashes into the World War II veterans event makes me laugh so hard I can’t breathe."
13.The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
"The Day After Tomorrow. Cringe-worthy, but when it’s on, I always watch it."
"I was, like, 14 and in love with Emmy Rossum; watched that shit all the time."
14.Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
Suggested by u/syorke0765
"Something about how well done it is. Like, the name is wild, and the idea is crazy, but damn it if they don’t pull it off magically."
"I think it worked because they played it completely straight."
15.Surf Ninjas (1993)
Suggested by u/mobilekungfu
"Surf Ninjas is incredible. It sucks, don't get me wrong, but I don't think there's a moment in which I'm bored when I watch it. And I'm pretty sure it's the funniest performance by Rob Schneider, except maybe Home Alone 2. He really only had, like, two minutes of screen time, and he shared a good chunk of it with probably my favorite Tim Curry performance."
16.Hackers (1995)
"Hackers. It's the sole reason I chose IT as a career path, and now, I'm almost to the point where I get to deal with cybersecurity concepts."
"In addition to getting me into IT, it completely changed my taste in music. The Hackers soundtrack was unbelievable and introduced me to The Prodigy, Leftfield, Orbital, K&D, and Underworld. I still listen to and love these artists today."
17.Nacho Libre (2006)
"Nacho Libre! It has a 40% on RT; that just feels criminal to me. It has so much heart and is incredibly funny. I quote it all the time."
"Jack Black's pained, awkward smile at the very end of the movie elevates it from a great comedy to a timeless classic."
18.Godzilla (1998)
"Godzilla. The 1998 version in New York. That shit was my jam as a kid. It’ll always have a special place in my heart."
"It was such fun to watch in the cinema. Watching this giant dinosaur tear through Manhattan was legitimately terrifying and exciting as a 6-year-old kid. It's Jurassic Park on steroids."
19.Road House (1989)
Suggested by u/Brad_Wesley
"Recently showed this to my boyfriend for the first time, of course, with the option to turn it off at any point. We watched the whole thing, and at the end, I turned to him and asked, 'Well?' His response was, 'Babe, Top 10.'"
20.Jingle All the Way (1996)
Suggested by u/thatmovieperson
"This movie is a perfect time capsule for Christmas at a very specific point in time."
"Not only a good Christmas movie, but also an excellent satire on consumerism."
21.Doom (2005)
"I fucking love Doom (2005). I love how cool Karl Urban looks, and also The Rock. I love the expectation subversion that you think Dwayne is going to be the hero, and then BAM, he gets fucking infected, and then, he goes insane. Hell, he even says, 'I'm not supposed to die.'
I also love the first-person shooter scene. I know, I know, it's cheesy and dumb, but the music and the monsters all look so cool in a kind of dumb but entertaining way.
It's my guilty pleasure movie. I watch it, like, once a month. LMAO."
22.Without a Paddle (2004)
"Without a Paddle. 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. I never see it mentioned anywhere, but I absolutely loved the movie as a kid, and it’s still great. It’s a fun movie with three actors that you can tell really loved working with each other and had fun making the movie. It’s got a great soundtrack, a ridiculous, campy plot, and Burt Reynolds as a backcountry hermit!"
23.Sucker Punch (2011)
"Sucker Punch. It's Zack Snyder at his most indulgent and worst impulses: bad/barebones script, a ridiculous amount of CGI, all flash and no substance, etc. But it's fun as hell, like a really long, really badass video game cut scene."
"The fantasy sequences are dope as hell. Giant samurai robots? Steampunk World War I zombies? Dragons? Hell yeah!"
24.Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985)
"Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. I always felt a bit cheated that we never got a sequel. You can't just name the movie 'Adventure Begins' and then not have a continuation."
25.Con Air (1997)
"Con Air. Idk what its Rotten Tomatoes rating is, but the reviews weren't great. It has one of the greatest casts ever assembled."
"Critics were too dumb to get what they were going for."
