Penn Badgley Is Back in His Serial Killer Bag in the New ‘You’ Finale Trailer
Everyone’s favorite serial killer psychopath Joe Goldberg is back for one last killing spree — and maybe, finally, a bit of justice — in the new trailer for the fifth and final season of You, which premieres on April 24 on Netflix.
The finale picks up three years after the events of Season Four and finds Penn Badgley’s Joe returning to where it all began, New York City. This time, though, he’s alongside his new partner Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), helping her run the company she inherited from her father (one of Joe’s Season Four victims), raising his son Henry, and adjusting to life in the limelight as a member of the New York elite.

And, of course, as ever, Joe’s efforts to assert some semblance of normalcy and stability over his life eventually falter in the face of the obsessive, psychosexual forces lurking deep inside his soul. This year’s “You” appears to be Bronte (Madeline Brewer), a playwright, who maybe, actually is the one person that will finally understand Joe (we doubt it).
On top of all that, the trailer teases some Succession-style corporate warfare involving Kate, her twin sister Maddie (Anna Camp), and half-brother Teddy (Griffin Matthews). There’s also plenty of skewering of the billionaire class and a social media-driven true crime manhunt that may finally bring about Joe’s downfall.
Speaking with Netflix’s Tudum, Badgley said of the final season of You and bidding farewell to the character, “It’s bittersweet, as anything is. It’s probably a lot sweeter than it is bitter. You’re in this same space and doing this same work for just about seven years and you love it, but you’re happy to move on. It’s time for him to lay down, to stop, to put that knife down.”
