“The Penguin” trailer reveals the aftermath of “The Batman” ending
Plus, see a new look at Clancy Brown's Salvatore Maroni.
The Batman sequel isn't coming to theaters until at least 2026, but upcoming series The Penguin will show DC fans the aftermath of that cataclysmic ending to the first movie.
Audiences will recall that Paul Dano's Riddler blew up the sea wall in 2022's Robert Pattinson-fronted The Batman. The new trailer for the Max series shows pockets of Gotham City still completely flooded by that event. Meanwhile, the criminal underworld is in chaos.

The death of mob boss Carmine Falcone, played by John Turturro in the film, has left a power vacuum. Who is going to fill the void? A big contender is, obviously, the Penguin himself, Oz Cobb. Colin Farrell is once again completely unrecognizable in the titular role, and he's making moves to rise swiftly through the ranks. But then there are Carmine's living children to consider.
Michael Zegen (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) appears as Carmine's son, Alberto Falcone, while Cristin Milioti (The Resort) emits chills as Carmine's daughter, Sofia Falcone. "The family thinks I'm broken. I'm not broken," she says in the trailer.

Or will the new head honcho of Gotham be Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown), the patriarch of the rival mob family? With so many hungry for power and blood, it's hard to say.

Matt Reeves, who directed The Batman, is back as an executive producer on The Penguin with his longtime colleague Dylan Clark. Lauren LeFranc, who worked on Impulse and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., serves as writer and showrunner.
