Peaky Blinders Movie Sets Production Start Date
During a recent interview with Birmingham World, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has officially confirmed Oscar winner Cillian Murphy’s return as Tommy Shelby in the highly-anticipated sequel movie to BBC’s acclaimed crime drama. It will begin filming in September.
Knight first announced his plans to make a Peaky Blinders movie back in 2021, right before the show ended its six-season run. The Oscar-nominated scribe has also revealed that production on the project is expected to begin later this year.
“He definitely is returning for it,” Knight shared. “We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth [England].”
What was Peaky Blinders about?
Created and written by Steven Knight, Peaky Blinders was set in the lawless streets of Birmingham as it followed the evolution of leader Tommy Shelby from backstreet crime lord to legitimate businessman and member of parliament. It also starred Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby, Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne, Finn Cole as Michael Gray, Tom Hardy as Alfie, Anya Taylor-Joy as Gina Gray, Brian Gleeson as Jimmy McCavern, Neil Maskell as Winston Churchill, Sam Claflin as Oswald Mosley, and more.
At the moment, it’s currently unclear if the rest of the original series’ cast would also return in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie. Last December 2023, it was reported that Netflix is developing two Peaky Blinders spin-offs, with the first one set to take place in the middle of the 20th century and other one centered around the origins of Helen McCrory’s Polly Gray.
