Paris Jackson claps back at haters who called her out for missing Janet Jackson's Billboard Awards performance
When Janet Jackson received the Billboard Icon Award on Sunday night, she had some of her famous family in the audience. However, one person noticeably missing from the BBMAs was Janet’s niece, Paris Jackson.
Like most of us, Michael Jackson’s only daughter watched the awards show at home, but she wasn’t any less proud of Janet — whose stellar performance and buzzy acceptance speech were highlights of the night. Paris shared a post congratulating her aunt, before launching into a lengthy message in her Instagram Stories addressing those who criticized her absence.
“Dear social media followers, friends, stalkers, lovers and haters, and fellow moonwalkers: Please do not tell me/demands/try to control how I handle my relationship with the people in my life, specifically my family,” she begins. “As amazing and as s***ty as things can be, it is no one’s business but ours. I understand that some of you feel some sort of connection or need to be a part of our lives considering you watched us grow up. However, I am handling my situation exactly how my father did. And I am happy keeping it that way. I will always have love and respect for my family. ALWAYS. There is nothing more or less than that, that you need to know.”
Jackson, 22, continues, “Every family has their moments of trauma, heartbreak, separation, love, oneness, tribe, pain, everything. EVERY FAMILY. My family, specifically, and a good number of others…well, our drama is broadcasted worldwide through media. But that doesn’t mean our family issues are any different from yours. Ours are just made public. Every level has another devil. Every life has their own s*** to deal with. We ain’t inferior or superior to y’all. We’re all f***ing human. So let’s act like it.
“I appreciate any and every person reading this and I’m grateful for everything in my life, positive and negative,” she concludes.
Paris also tweeted, telling people to mind their own business and that she was unaware of Janet’s Icon Award.
and you clearly didn’t get the message.

This isn’t the first time she has addressed family drama. Paris — who has been romantically linked to Cara Delevingne — clapped back after reports surfaced that the Jacksons were worried about her behavior. Page Six ran a report claiming her famous family was concerned she’s heading for a “serious meltdown.”
“So apparently people think I’m about to die,” Paris said in an Instagram video last month. “My therapist texted me about it laughing though, so that’s good… So I guess to the family members that are talking to all of these news outlets saying they’re worried for me: When is the last time you called me? [My brother] Prince isn’t worried. Why? Because we talk all the time. We hang out. If you’re worried about me, call me.”
Prince, 21, was in attendance at the BBMAs on Sunday in support of Janet. Matriarch Katherine Jackson and Rebbie Jackson were also in the audience.
