Palm Royale comes from Apple Studios and creator Abe Sylvia (Dead to Me, Nurse Jackie). Wiig stars as Maxine Simmons, a woman determined to join Palm Beach’s high society set in 1969, going to great lengths (and costs) to acheive her goal. The show’s cast also includes Allison Janney, Laura Dern (who also executive produces), Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy and Kaia Gerber. Bruce Dern and Carol Burnett have recurring roles.
“Palm Royale has delighted global audiences and we are thrilled that viewers will have the opportunity to spend more time with this highly entertaining, iconic cast, from Kristen Wiig to the incomparable Carol Burnett,” said Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss in a statement. “We can’t wait for everyone to experience the next brilliantly witty chapter in the lives of the Palm Beach high society set that Abe Sylvia, Kristen, Laura Dern and this incredible team behind the show have brought so vibrantly to life.”
Said Dern, “We are so thrilled to hear about season two. “Jayme [Lemons] and I with Jaywalker Pictures have been dreaming up this project for so long in hopes that audiences would have delicious fun with the radical ride that is the world of Palm Royale. We all can’t wait to get started.”
The finale ended with many cliffhangers. Executive producer John Norris recently told The Hollywood Reporter that their wheels had been turning on a second season ever since Burnett told them she was on board. “There are still questions to answer from the first, second, third, fourth episode — like Maxine’s life in Chattanooga,” he sais. “There’s so much more to know that I think Apple TV+ owes it to the world to spread this joy.”
Palm Royale is part of a comedy roster at Apple TV+ that also includes Shrinking, Loot, The Big Door Prize, Acapulco and Platonic.
Sylvia created the series, which is loosely based on the novel Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel. Sylvia also serves as showrunner and executive produces with Wiig; Dern and Lemons of Jaywalker Pictures; Katie O’Connell Marsh; Tate Taylor (who directed three episodes of season one) and John Norris for Wyolah Films; and Sharr White, Sheri Holman and Boat Rocker.
