Oscars Red Carpet Power Rankings: Chanel, Timothée Chalamet and Ariana Grande Among Big Winners
Never trust a narrative that suggests viewers are not interested in the Academy Awards or the high-wattage style parade of the Oscars red carpet because the numbers confirm otherwise.
Initial reports noted that ratings for the Oscars 2025 telecast were slightly down from 2024. But the updated Nielsen numbers — revised, as is the researcher’s policy, to include viewings on PCs, tablets and smartphones — reveal that the broadcast increased its viewership by 1 percent over the previous year with a total audience of 19.69 million.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Red Carpet Power Rankings, meanwhile, delivered a far more significant increase. The Top 10 Fashion Brands seen on the 2025 Academy Awards red carpet totaled a whopping $101 million in earned engagement, up from $87.5 million in 2024. What might that mean? Did viewers find Oscar Night style more compelling than the previous year? That certain gown and tuxedo details became popular social-media conversations? Or were the stars themselves the reason their looks spawned increased online chatter? The answer is all of the above when you peruse each category’s results, and the overall total across the five categories measured for Oscar night: $173.07 million in earned engagement, up from $150.52 million overall in 2024.
An exclusive partnership between The Hollywood Reporter and data firm Launchmetrics, the Red Carpet Power Rankings are designed to quantify the impact of brands seen on red carpets throughout the awards season. Launchmetrics employs its proprietary Media Impact Value (MIV) algorithm to analyze and rank both the brands and stars, spanning five categories: fashion, watches, jewelry and accessories, as well as the top five women and the top five men at each event. The Launchmetrics MIV algorithm assigns a monetary value to every post, social media interaction and editorial story to determine a brand’s influence and earned engagement. It has been recognized industrywide as the solution to modern brand measurement.

Top 10 Fashion Brands: Chanel and Lupita Create a Frenzy for Pearls
Chanel dressed five stylish women for Oscars 2025: Lupita Nyong’o, Margaret Qualley, Penelope Cruz, Lily-Rose Depp and best actress nominee Fernanda Torres. That power lineup is unquestionably among the reasons the iconic French house took the top spot among fashion brands, earning $16.9 million in MIV. But Nyong’o’s custom gown sparked the most chatter among the quintet, perhaps because its handwork dazzled viewers. The pearl-embellished gown in ivory silk charmeuse was inspired by a look from Karl Lagerfeld’s spring 1991 haute couture collection and featured exactly 22,410 embroidery elements that required 660 hours of handcraft. Nyong’o’s longtime stylist, Micaela Erlanger, later said the dress had been in the works for six months prior to the Academy Awards — and the numbers proved that hard work and patience paid off with attention and interest.
Ariana Grande’s pair of custom Schiaparelli gowns, on the red carpet and during her performance with Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, account for that label’s second-place finish, while Demi Moore — among the night’s most anticipated red carpet arrivals — is the likely reason for Armani’s third-place finish, with social media rhapsodic over the best actress nominee’s Giorgio Armani Privé crystal-embroidered gown. Best actor winner Adrien Brody surely added to that number in his Giorgio Armani Made to Measure tuxedo — and indeed, fellow winners Zoe Salda?a in Saint Laurent and Mikey Madison in Dior also helped to boost the numbers of their respective style choices.
Top 10 Watch & Jewelry Brands: Stars Drive Interest in Cartier, Bulgari and Tiffany & Co.
Jewelry brands also chose well in the stars they lent pricey diamonds to for Oscars 2025. Salda?a, Timothée Chalamet and Elle Fanning all wore Cartier (the latter two are ambassadors of the house), while Salda?a later noted that she was thrilled to be the first person to wear the Panthère Versatiles, a convertible necklace of diamonds, emeralds and onyx, which is part of Cartier’s Nature Sauvage high-jewelry collection and was fresh out of the workshop.
Selena Gomez, meanwhile, captured substantial attention for the pairing of her custom Ralph Lauren gown with a Bulgari statement necklace crafted of diamonds set in platinum, but Isabelli Rossellini communicated a better and more sentimental story with her Bulgari jewels. The Blue Velvet star wore a Dolce & Gabbana gown crafted in that fabric as a tribute to the film’s director, David Lynch, her former love and director, following his passing in January. A Bulgari statement necklace in diamonds and sapphires was chosen to match the dress, while Rossellini finished her look with vintage Bulgari earrings that belonged to her mother, Ingrid Bergman, which the star of Casablanca and Notorious wore when she won her best supporting actress Oscar in 1975 for Murder on the Orient Express.
Speaking of winners, best actress Mikey Madison paired her pink satin Dior gown with Tiffany & Co. jewels, including a statement necklace borrowed from the house’s archives. Crafted in platinum-iridium and embellished with white diamonds, the piece dates to the 1910s and was paired with platinum and diamond earrings, bracelet and ring, as well as a diamond and platinum ring that highlighted a pink tourmaline.
Top Five Accessory Brands: Christian Louboutin Wins, But What’s Up with Fifth Place?
Moore, Fanning and Yvonne Orji wore Christian Louboutin to the 2025 Oscars, though the designer’s strong showing also can be credited to the many additional women (and at least one man) who wore his red-soled shoes to the Vanity Fair party, a star-studded list that includes Cynthia Erivo, Miley Cyrus, Anna Kendrick, Halle Berry, Jenna Ortega and Lil Nas X.
Aquazurra’s strong showing can be credited to eight women who wore the brand that evening, including Leslie Bibb, Sarah Paulson and Raffey Cassidy, while Grande, Bowen Yang, Emma Stone and Raye were among the stars who wore Jimmy Choo. Gomez again flexed her style muscle in Stuart Weitzman, which is, without a doubt, the key reason the footwear label placed in the number-three position.
But if you spotted Under Armour on the list and are wondering why the sportswear brand slid into fifth place for Oscar night results, the answer is two words: Adam Sandler. The comedic bit early in the evening between the actor and 2025 Academy Awards host Conan O’Brien spawned online conversation not only about Sandler’s appearance but also about what he was wearing, a bright blue Aviator Nation zipped hoodie that quickly sold out, with Adidas basketball shorts and Under Armour’s Steph Curry 11 sneakers. Chatter among sneakerheads about the shoes not only vaulted Under Armour into fifth place, Curry announced in an Instagram story to his 58 million followers that the shoes would be rereleased in limited quantities in the days following the Academy Awards. Anyone who manages to score a pair should send Sandler a bottle of Champagne.
Top 5 Women: Ariana Grande and Schiaparelli Win Big
Five dazzling actresses and zero surprises topped the list of women seen at the Oscars 2025. Grande is a social-media powerhouse with 376 million Instagram followers, and she posted twice on the platform about her pink satin and tulle custom Schiaparelli gown. Together those detailed looks and a thanks to creative director Daniel Roseberry — “I am floating with gratitude,” she wrote — garnered almost five million likes. Fold in the deep crimson Schiaparelli gown Grande wore onstage to perform a Wicked medley with Erivo, and the star and the French label leaped to the top spot by a substantial amount. (Fun fact: Roseberry christened Grande’s onstage gown with a fitting style name: “The Ruby Slipper.”)
Moore’s second-place finish also isn’t a surprise. The Substance star was, without question, an online favorite and sentimental favorite to take home the best actress Oscar, especially after winning the SAG Award in the same category the week before, making her arrival on the Academy Awards red carpet a hotly anticipated event. Moore looked flawless in Armani Privé, the finale gown for an awards season coordinated with star stylist Brad Goreski, and social media simply loved it. Madison took home the Oscar for Anora, but Moore looked every inch the winner.
Top 5 Men: Is Chalamet Unbeatable?
Chalamet’s continued dominance of the men’s category throughout the 2025 awards season surprises no one and only further solidifies the notion that star power fuels interest in brands. Of course, the A Complete Unknown best actor nominee also loves to push the envelope with his red carpet style, which this year was heavily influenced by his role as Bob Dylan in a film he worked for years to bring to fruition. Many people side-eyed Chalamet’s choice of a Givenchy suit in butter yellow, from its double-breasted jacket and matching shirt to pants that were not traditional tuxedo trousers, but looked more like jeans. Seeking to better understand the choice, many fashion pundits speculated that the suit could be a shoutout to the Dylan song “Big Yellow Taxi.” Regardless of Chalamet’s still-undisclosed reason for his style choice, the yellow suit quickly became one of the night’s major talking points from the red carpet, while his Cartier jewels, including a 1988 necklace and 1994 watch, again propelled that brand into the list of top five labels among men.
However, as strong as the reaction was to Chalamet’s Academy Awards look, the numbers still paled in comparison not only to Grande but also all the statistics from the top five women. Hollywood’s leading men may be embracing the peacock trend on red carpets, but women still rule in interest and social-media conversation, with the night’s top five women totaling $35.76 million in earned engagement, while the men earned $10.9 million.
That’s a wrap on the 2025 awards season, but one major red carpet remains for the first half of the year: The Met Gala is set for Monday, May 4, at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, with Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and A$AP Rocky joining Anna Wintour as the night’s co-chairs. The Red Carpet Power Rankings will cover the style seen on the museum steps, while the museum will celebrate the Costume Institute exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, set to open to the public on Saturday, May 10.
