Oscars: Guy Pearce Wears “Free Palestine” Pin on the Red Carpet
As a protest supporting Palestinians in the ongoing Hamas-Israel conflict took place outside the Dolby Theatre at Oscars 2025, Guy Pearce brought his statement onto the red carpet, pairing his tuxedo with a small pin that depicted a white enamel dove embossed with “Free Palestine.”
A best supporting actor nominee for The Brutalist, Pearce has been wearing pins at several public appearances since early last year and indicated before the 2025 Academy Awards that he would indeed include a pin as part of his Oscar Night attire, as The Hollywood Reporter previously reported.

Pearce is not deterred by the controversy his choice is causing. After wearing a pin depicting the Palestinian flag at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024, an uproar occurred after it was discovered that Vanity Fair France photoshopped the pin out of an image that ran on the magazine’s site. “As the Palestinian people are already suffering great trauma and loss due to the vengeful regime of Netanyahu,” Pearce wrote in an email to CNN, “it is most unfortunate that a reputable publication like VF attempts to eliminate support that I or anyone chooses to offer.”
The timing for Pearce’s solidarity at Oscars 2025 is also notable: Israel and Hamas talks stalled over the weekend, with no indication that a ceasefire set to expire will be extended.
Dove pins have become a popular item to wear, symbolizing peace and expressing solidarity with Gaza civilians who have been bombed by Israel as a response to Hamas launching its own attack on October 7, 2023.
The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, were held Sunday at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Find the full winners list here, and check out the A-list red carpet arrivals here.
