The 23 categories were divided into two parts, with the first nine (supporting actor, supporting actress, animated short, costume design, live action short, makeup & hairstyling, score, adapted screenplay, and original screenplay) being read out at 5:30 a.m. PT. The remaining 14 races (lead actor, lead actress, animated feature, cinematography, directing, documentary feature, documentary short, film editing, international feature, song, picture, production design, sound, and visual effects) were announced beginning at 5:41 a.m. PT.
Due to wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles, the live presentation of this year’s nominees was delayed from Jan. 12 to Jan. 17, and eventually to Jan. 23. Voting for the Oscar nominations was also extended until Jan. 17 to allow Academy members more time to mark their ballots in the wake of the tragedy.
The 97th Oscars will air live on ABC and stream on Hulu on March 2 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m PT. (Gold Derby has confirmed that the ceremony will go on as planned, with “special moments” acknowledging the wildfires.) Conan O’Brien will host the kudos for the first time.
