Openly gay Olympian says Mike Pence is a 'strange choice' for leader of U.S. Olympic delegation
Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy doesn’t seem to be happy about Vice President Mike Pence being the leader of the U.S. delegation at the upcoming Winter Olympics. Kenworthy said on the Ellen DeGeneres Show that this will be his first Winter Games after coming out following his silver medal win at the Sochi Olympics. He and figure skater Adam Rippon will be the first openly gay men to compete representing the U.S. in the Winter Olympics.
Ellen DeGeneres mentioned that Pence will be the leader of the U.S. delegation at the upcoming Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Kenworthy said, “It just seems like a strange choice for me.”
He went on to say that the Olympics should be about coming together, adding, “But then to have someone leading the delegation that’s directly attacked the LGBT community — and just a Cabinet in general that stands against us and has tried to do things to set us back — it just seems like a bad fit.”
