Olivia Wilde Is Reportedly Eyeing a Comeback After Tumultuous Press Tour for 'Don't Worry Darling'
The year 2022 wasn’t a great one for Olivia Wilde after the behind-the-scenes drama on the film, Don’t Worry Darling, took over the headlines. The 40-year-old actress and director has laid low the past two years after the lukewarm reception to her second movie, but she’s reportedly eyeing a major Hollywood comeback.
Wilde won’t feel alone in her return to the public eye because she has a super-hot A-lister helping her along the way: Margot Robbie. That’s right, the Barbie producer and star has faith that Wilde will deliver on her third film as a director. The movie is Naughty, a Christmas comedy that Deadline described as Bridesmaids in the North Pole — and we can’t wait to see what she does with the film about a mom who is trying to track down Santa Clause to help him testify in her child custody hearing.

A source told Life & Style that the “‘new’ Olivia” is turning “on the charm” with studio executives to prove she won’t let the tabloid stories happen again. “Olivia’s plan has worked: she’s got a new movie to direct, and she’s got the two hottest producers in town, Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley, and the hottest studio in town, Universal, backing it,” they added. Everyone deserves a second chance, and Don’t Worry Darling, was much better than what critics said. “Olivia will live to fight another day,” the insider said.
Wilde had a feud with Shia LaBeouf, who was fired from the film and then replaced Harry Styles. The director and her new star then found love on the set, but it wasn’t necessarily comfortable for everyone involved, especially with the power imbalance. That romance led to Wilde’s fractured relationship with Florence Pugh, who also starred in the fraught film. Puck News reported that the 28-year-old actress “wasn’t a fan of her director disappearing so often with her leading man [Harry Styles].” It also didn’t help that LaBeouf released receipts about private conversations he had with Wilde ahead of his firing, which disclosed Pugh’s discomfort with him as her co-star.
The awkwardness eventually carried over the Venice Film Festival red carpet where the celebs were strategically placed — Pugh away from Wilde due to their feud, and Styles away from the director as a result of their romance. Let’s just say, it was messy. Hopefully, there were major lessons learned and Wilde will keep her next set strictly business.
