'The Office' Fans and Co-Stars Rally Behind Jenna Fischer as She Reveals Major Health Diagnosis
Actress Jenna Fischer shocked fans on social media when she announced on Oct. 8 that she has been going through a major health situation since December 2023.
Fischer, who is best known for her portrayal of Pam Beesly (later Halpert) on the hit sitcom The Office, shared a touching statement in which she revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“Back in October 2023, I posted a photo of myself on Instagram preparing for my routine mammogram with a joking reminder to ‘take care of your ticking time bags' a la Michael Scott,” she began the post, referencing another beloved character on The Office.
She continued, sharing that after inconclusive results on her mammogram, further testing found stage 1 triple positive breast cancer in her left breast. A lumpectomy in January 2024 removed the tumor, but due to the “aggressive nature” of her cancer, she went through 12 rounds of weekly chemotherapy and three weeks of radiation.
Fischer is continuing treatment with other medications, but says that she is “feeling great” and credits her “amazing village” including her husband Lee, their two children, and her The Office co-star and Office Ladies podcast co-host Angela Kinsey for surrounding her with “love and support.”
The Splitting Up Together star then shared that she is “happy to say that I was recently re-screened, and the treatments worked. I am cancer free. I will continue to be treated and monitored to help me stay that way,” she said before urging her followers to get their mammograms.
Friends and fans flooded the comments of her Instagram post offering support and encouragement.
Actress Jennifer Garner chimed in, writing “Congratulations, @msjennafischer !! I’m so grateful to know you’re on the other side and cancer free! ??,” while Kinsey wrote “I love you and I’m so glad you're sharing. I got your back, always. ??.”
Abbott Elementary star and creator Quinta Brunson sent her love via three heart emojis, while actress Olivia Munn, who in March revealed her own breast cancer diagnosis, wrote “You already know how much I love you and how incredibly proud of you I am. But I just want to say it again; I love you and by sharing your story you’re helping so many women and saving so many lives. You’re just the best. ????????.”
Countless fans wrote into the comments as well, with some sharing their own experiences with cancer and others applauding Fischer for being open about her illness, stating that it inspired them to seek mammograms and testing for themselves.
