Niall Horan, formerly of One Direction and currently a coach on ‘The Voice,’ to play X in July 2024

Grown up boy bander Niall Horan will hit the road next year for a world tour that brings him to St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center on July 7.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. June 2 through Ticketmaster, some 13 months before the show. Citi cardholders have access to a presale that starts at 10 a.m. May 30. Neither the venue nor the promoter announced ticket prices.

The Irish vocalist rose to fame as a member of the boy band One Direction and co-wrote many of the group’s songs, including the singles “Story of My Life” and “Night Changes.” After 1D went on an extended hiatus in 2015, Horan released his debut solo single, “This Town,” an acoustic pop song that earned comparisons to Ed Sheeran and Vance Joy. It went platinum and peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2017, Horan released his solo debut album, “Flicker,” which was inspired by such classic rock acts as the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. It also featured his biggest hit to date in “Slow Hands,” which made it to No. 11. He made his local live debut at the KDWB Jingle Ball that December and drew 9,511 to the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand the following year.

Horan expanded his sound for his sophomore record “Heartbreak Weather” and earned comparisons to Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes and his former 1D bandmate Harry Styles. But he released it the week the country went into pandemic lockdown in March 2020. None of its four singles gained any traction in this country. Horan’s tour, which was to have included a stop at the X, was eventually canceled.

In February, Horan issued “Heaven,” the first single from his third album “The Show,” which is due out June 9. Soon after, Horan became one of the coaches on the 23rd season of “The Voice” alongside Kelly Clarkson, Chance the Rapper and Blake Shelton. Neither “Heaven” nor its follow-up “Meltdown” did well on radio, and it’s probably safe to assume Horan is hoping for the career boost “The Voice” gave to several judges, most notably Shelton.
