Nelly And Ashanti Adorably Remix “Baby” After Welcoming First Child Together
Ashanti and Nelly united on stage, sharing their mutual love of each other and music with the audience at the rapper’s annual Black and White Ball. Taking place on Sunday (Dec. 15), the charitable event boasted a star-studded crowd and a performance from the newlyweds.
According to PEOPLE Magazine at the event, which took place at the Four Seasons Hotel Nelly’s hometown of St. Louis, “They were playful and loving and telling everyone what a good baby KK [Kareem Kenkaide Haynes] is.” Together, they sang Ashanti and Fat Joe’s 2002 “What’s Luv” collaboration, as well as her song “Baby,” remixing the lyrics to “we made a baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.”
“Make some noise for my God d*mn beautiful wife,” exclaimed Nelly from the stage the outlet reported. Guests included Bow Wow, Ne-Yo, Metro Boomin, Jermaine Dupri, J-Kwon, Murphy Lee, and more.
The event raised money for Make-A-Wish as well as a full-ride scholarship for the local HBCU Harris-Stowe State University. Additionally, the Country Grammar rapper was awarded a key to the city with the St. Lunatics. Per PEOPLE, he teased a joint festival with Metro Boomin, who is also from St. Louis, coming next year.
The couple welcomed baby KK earlier this year as Ashanti’s first child and Nelly’s third biological child.
“His dad named him with a lot of pride,” explained the “Foolish” singer. “We were going back and forth for a long time on his name and he was very adamant. He was like, ‘This is what I want, I love this.’”
She continued, “I thought it was just so amazing and so thoughtful and so sweet because Kenkaide is my dad’s name and obviously my dad has only girls, so Nelly was just like, ‘I think that would be really dope.’ This was all his idea.”
