The next generation of Mythbusters is coming — we just don’t know who they are yet. Mythbusters: The Search will take 10 contestants and eliminate them one by one until one is named the next “myth-busting superstar.” Adam and Jamie left big shoes to fill; in addition to being special-effects guys, they were also engineers and science communicators. What better way to test all those skill sets than by bringing back a longtime flouter of the laws of physics: The Fast & the Furious movies?
The busting hopefuls are asked to build a side-ejecting seat like the one from 2 Fast 2 Furious. The original Mythbusters series did the classic James Bond upward-flying ejector seat, but this version has a few extra parameters — not the least of which is the competition element. Adam and Jamie had all the time in the world to complete their builds. But imagine having to design a fully functional (and nonlethal to the driver) ejector seat with nine other competitors breathing down your neck. Or don’t imagine it; just watch. And if you’re feeling nostalgic, Science Channel will be airing every single episode of the original Mythbusters starting Dec. 23 at midnight.
Mythbusters: The Search premieres Saturday, Jan. 7, at 9 p.m. on the Science Channel.
