New movies starring Angelina Jolie & Ralph Fiennes at 35th annual New Orleans Film Festival
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The 35th annual New Orleans Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday with several high profile movies, and some that were made right here in Louisiana will be featured.
“The City transforms, films all over the city,” New Orleans Film Society Marketing Manager Jessica Lopez said.
With movies you’ll want to see.
“So we have ‘Maria’ starring Angelina Jolie, which is the story of Greek opera singer Maria Callas. This one is going to be one that everyone’s talking about,” Lopez said.

Other films showing at the New Orleans Film Festival this year include: “Conclave,” which is a Vatican-based drama about a group of Cardinals selecting the next Pope. It’s starring Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci.
Plus “Rebel Nun,” a documentary about Louisiana-based Sister Helen Prejean, whose story inspired the Oscar-winning film, “Dead Man Walking.”
Award-winning films, parties, panels and experiences, like the exhibition “Cinema Reset” at the Contemporary Arts Center.
“Cinema Reset” is generously supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation of the Visual Arts.
“In my case, a three-channel video installation, telling a story or at least fragments of stories,” Cinema Reset Featured Artist Federico Cuatlacuatl said.
He went on to say, “I’m really excited to show this work here, because it is talking about indigenous migrant communities from Central Mexico.”
“One of the cool things that makes us cool is that we have access for everyone. Moviemaker Magazine named us 25 coolest film fests in the world,” Lopez said.

Festival organizers are offering free tickets to first time fest-goers. Just use the code “ARTFORALL” when selecting your movie on the New Orleans Festival website. NOFF partnered with The Helis Foundation to make this possible.
Screenings for the New Orleans Film Festival will be at The Broad Theater, The Orpheum Theater, The Prytania Theatre and the Contemporary Arts Center.
In-person screenings begin on Wednesday and run through Oct. 22.
Virtual screenings run from October 16th through Oct. 27.
