From creepers and piglins to villages and the Nether, the teaser for A Minecraft Movie is full of staples from Mojang's crafting game.

Directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), this live-action spin on Minecraft sees a crew of four humans — played by Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Emma Myers (Wednesday), and Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Lisey's Story) — entering the blocky world of the game. And while Minecraft's geometric landscapes and buildings translate pretty well in the trailer, the game's livestock, like a pink sheep and a llama, fare less well. Animals were never meant to be cubes!
Granted, A Minecraft Movie seems to be leaning into the strangeness of its blocky aesthetic, as the humans are as perturbed as I am by that nightmare sheep. The trailer also highlights Minecraft's crafting mechanics, with Minecraft expert Steve (Jack Black) saying, "anything you dream about here, you can make." Cue Momoa using a crafting table!
Here's hoping a creeper doesn't destroy our heroes' hard-earned gear.
