Michael Phelps and Nicole Johnson welcome baby No. 2
Boomer Phelps is going to have some new competition at swim lessons! Michael Phelps and Nicole Johnson welcomed their second child, a baby boy named Beckett, on Monday.
The Olympic gold medalist confirmed the happy news on Instagram. “Magical moments yesterday… Nicole and I would like to introduce Beckett Richard Phelps to the world! We had a healthy baby boy and a healthy mama. I truly do feel like the happiest man in the world. Being able to build our family to now 4 (6 with doggies) is so incredible!” he shared along with the hashtag “#familyof4now.”

Beckett joins older brother Boomer, who will turn 2 in May. Being the Instagram star he is, Boomer also posted about the new addition to their family: “I am officially a big bro!!! All I wanna do is hold him! I can’t wait til I get to teach him so many cool things about the world!!”

The couple revealed last year that Johnson was pregnant again. The fact that the siblings would be 22 months apart was something Phelps was excited about.
“I think they’re close enough where it’s gonna be perfect. I grew up with two older sisters, five and seven years older,” he told Today. “We wanted our first to have somebody close in age, so they could grow up together, and they could go through things together and they could play with each other.”
He added, “I think I’m probably more excited this time around because I didn’t go through the whole entire process with Boomer. You know, from me traveling, and competing, and getting ready for Rio, I missed some months here and there leading up to the pregnancy and then the first couple months of his life when I was traveling at trials and the Olympics.”
While it was a more enjoyable process for Phelps, it was harder on Johnson, former Miss USA California. “This pregnancy I think is a little more challenging for Nicole,” he noted. “Me at times as well. But it’s an experience. Nicole and I still are learning so much about each other every single day, and it’s been a fun process.”
Phelps and Johnson secretly tied the knot in June 2016. They announced that they were expecting their second child nearly one year later but kept the sex a secret. “I’m voting boy. Nicole’s voting girl. Obviously one of us is right,” he told Today.
Looks like Phelps was right about this one.
