Michael Fassbender Was Caught in a Storm During a Boat Trip … While ABBA Music Blasted
Michael Fassbender wasn’t necessarily having the “time of his life” while on a boat trip.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Black Bag actor recalled a scary experience of being on a boat trip to Ibiza.

“I never really liked ABBA. And then we were in Ibiza — we were actually in Formentera, and we were getting a boat from Formentera to Ibiza — and we had a late lunch, and we were heading back at night, and it got really stormy,” Fassbender told late night host Jimmy Fallon. “Like, bad.”
“We’d already taken our little tender boat out to the main boat where we were going to go back to Ibiza, and that started deflating as we were heading out to the boat. So we just made it back, but that thing sort of sunk and we were laughing about it,” he said.
Things became dangerous as the storm worsened during the boat trip but not without some comical relief.
“We set off on the boat and the storm just kicked up and plates and everything were flying. We had to lock stuff down, but we had ABBA blasting. I was sort of hanging onto the boat and ABBA was playing and I finally understood ABBA,” Fassbender said before quoting the song lyrics, “It was like, ‘You can dance / You can jive / Having the time of your life,'” while pretending to hold on and ride with the waves.
When Fallon laughed and told the actor that he’s “always safe with ABBA,” Fassbender quipped, “I was like, ‘If we have to die tonight, this is a good soundtrack to die to.’ Absolutely.”
The actor is next set to star in Steven Soderbergh’s thriller Black Bag alongside Cate Blanchett. In the film, Fassbender plays a renowned intelligence officer, who must choose between loyalty to his marriage or his country after his wife Kathryn (Blanchett) is exposed as a possible suspect in a giant intelligence breach.
The film, out March 14, also stars Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris, Tom Burke and Pierce Brosnan.
