Michael Che Jokingly Shows Love To R. Kelly After Fellow Felon Donald Trump’s Election Win
Michael Che has joked that no one criminal is better than another—even if that criminal happens to be the president-elect.
In the latest “Weekend Update” segment on Saturday Night Live, Che and co-host Colin Jost ran through the results of the 2024 Election. Following Jost’s quips about the United States being a “simulation,” Che hit out at white liberals who “convinced” him that Kamala Harris had a chance to defeat Donald Trump. Che then appeared to take a swig of brown liquor as he compared the outrage of R. Kelly to white people’s reaction to Trump—both legally criminals in their own rights.
“How did I let y’all convince me that rural Pennsylvania would pick the Jamaican Indian lady?” Che pondered, before getting off a joke. “Clearly, I’ve been spending too much time around white liberals and their goofy optimism. It wasn’t even close. At one point, Trump was so far ahead, they put in Bronny [James].”
“Y’all gonna let a man with 34 felonies lead the free world and be the president of the United States? That’s it, I’m listening to R. Kelly again,” Che joked. “I already do, but I’m gonna stop pretending I don’t. If white people can elect their felon, I can dance to mine.”
Che then closed his portion of the segment by taking aim at America’s class disparities. He revealed that the world’s 10 wealthiest people made $60 billion after news broke of Trump’s presidential win, and joked about Trump’s relatability to America’s working class.
“Yup, the richest people immediately got richer,” Che asserted, waving his drink in his hand. “But don’t worry, I’m sure yours is coming soon, Earl!”
