Met Gala 2024: Behind the Scenes With Gabrielle Union in Michael Kors
For the 2024 Met Gala, Gabrielle Union worked with the team at Michael Kors to bring a water-inspired gown to life. The actress wore a couture Michael Kors Collection metallic ombré tulle mermaid gown with hand-embroidered sequins, which was the work of 12 artisans over 9,500 hours of labor. The dress was hand-embroidered and featured thousands of sequins in five colors and varying sizes that together created a one-of-a-kind scaled effect.
“We wanted to play with the elements — air, water, land. I’m evoking water, as we’re always around water and my daughters love the water,” Union said of the look. “I love the insanely high glamour and total ease that Michael always does so perfectly.”

For the night she was styled by Thomas Kikis, with hair by Larry Sims and makeup by Tasha Brown.
“The inspiration was a mix of few things: 1960s Ebony covers with Diahann Carroll, who has inspired a few Met looks. The sea and travel,” Union continued of her look. “I’ve been working with Tiffany recently so high glamour, opals, and emeralds have been on my mind — if you couldn’t tell.”
