Melissa McCarthy Jokes She’ll Use Her Oscar as a Door Knocker if She Wins Best Actress
If Melissa McCarthy wins an Oscar tonight, you won’t be able to miss it when you visit her house.
McCarthy dropped by ABC’s red carpet show, where cohost Billy Porter mentioned that he’d heard she planned to use her Oscar as a door knocker if she takes the trophy home. The Can You Ever Forgive Me? actress, 48, is nominated for Best Actress, her first time in the category.
“So the door knocker thing if you win an Oscar: For real, girl? That’s a heavy door knocker!” Porter said.
“I’m gonna get a bigger door!” McCarthy joked.

“One of my favorite moments in the world is Glenn Close in Dangerous Liaisons, when she’s shamed at the end and people turn on her,” McCarthy said, referring to the 1989 drama also starring John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer. “And you watch her in the movie completely flush red. There’s no CGI. It’s just her feeling it and her body reacting, and I literally remember being like, did everyone freak out? When that happened, and they got it on film, they must have just lost their minds. It still gives me chills to think about.”
The 91st Academy Awards are broadcasting live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on ABC.
