Meghan Trainor says she knew she was going to marry her now-husband when he serenaded her at karaoke
Meghan Trainor and actor Daryl Sabara haven’t kept their marital bliss a secret, since being married in Dec. 2018. But in James Corden’s latest Carpool Karaoke, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter opened up about the moment that she knew Sabara would be her lifelong partner.
“Our friend, Chloe Grace Moretz, you know her?” Trainor asked Corden while telling the story her and Sabara’s first date. “She set me up on, like, a modern day blind date.”
At the time, Moretz was dating David and Victoria Beckham’s eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham — although Trainor admits she didn’t know who he was — and the four went on a double date to the bowling alley. There, Moretz and Beckham tried to get Trainor and Sabara to kiss, but the “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” singer wanted to do it “on my own time.”
“Then I looked at my security guard, and I was like, ‘Be gone.’ And that’s what gave Daryl the clue of, oh, it’s going down,” Trainor joked.
Still, sparks didn’t fly between the couple until Sabara made a bold move later on in the evening, when he serenaded Trainor at karaoke.
“He sang ‘Your Song’ by Elton John, in my face, to me,” she said through a smile. “ He’s something else. I’ve never met anyone like him, and I was like, ‘I’m gon’ marry you.’”
When Corden asked what the other couple was doing during the intimate moment when Trainor made her realization, she responded, “I swear to God, they were singing Spice Girls.”
