Lacey Chabert's daughter isn't trying to make fetch happen — in fact, she doesn't really understand what it is.
The Mean Girls actress, who played Gretchen Wieners in the 2004 film, appeared on a Monday, Sept. 9 episode of Today and spoke with Hoda Kotb, 60, about her new show Celebrations with Lacey Chabert, which premieres tomorrow on Hallmark+.
While chatting about the series, Chabert, 41, was asked whether fans still quote her iconic line — "Stop trying to match fetch happen" — from the movie, revealing that her 8-year-old daughter Julia didn't know why people kept saying that to her when she was younger.
"When she was younger, she was like, 'What's fetch, why does everyone say that to you?'" Chabert remembered.

Now that she's a little older, Chabert's daughter is coming to terms with the idea that her mother's movies are actually quite popular.
"And a couple of years ago she goes, 'Mom, do other people watch the movies that you make?' I was like, 'Yes baby, they're not just for you.' "
In March 2023, Chabert shared an adorable throwback photo of her then 6?-year-old daughter Julia. "This popped up in my photo memories as 6 years ago," Chabert wrote alongside the sweet black-and-white snapshot.
"Where does the time go?!" she pondered. "My daughter is the light of my life and I can't wait to get home to hug her and kiss those little cheeks exactly one million times!"
"Filming these movies on location is such a special experience for which I'm so grateful, but there's no place like home ??," the star, who filmed several movies for Hallmark, added.
Despite her busy work schedule, the actress has previously told PEOPLE that Julia is her main focus.
"My daughter is my No. 1 priority," Chabert said in 2019. "I'm lucky and incredibly fortunate that my family is able to travel with me most of the time."
"This is my first time being a mom and I'm figuring out as I go," the Party of Five alum continued. "But Julia is the light of my life. I'm very thankful that I'm also able to continue working."
Chabert added, "I hope to set that example for her to let her know that you can do it all, but with a lot of help and support!"
