Matters of Graves Importance: Old Capitol Brewing's third annual Oktoberfest is Saturday
The cat is out of the bag. If you didn’t hear, I am the new AM on-air personality from 6 to 9 a.m. every Monday through Friday on 100.9 Hank FM in our area. Broadcasting from the new Total Media studio in downtown Chillicothe, I hope I can make your mornings fun and entertaining. Along with playing your favorite classic country hits, I will be inviting folks from the community to be in the studio to talk about what is happening in Ross County. Oh and PS, classic country is now Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson. Feel old? I sure did when I found out about that. Even if you are feeling old, get out and enjoy some of the upcoming things happening in town this weekend.
Thursday
Hazel's Roadshow with DJ Hazel Tanner returns to the Chillicothe City Park from 5:30 to 8 p.m. this evening (weather permitting) playing R&B, old school, and hip hop. This event is free and open to the public. It is jazz night at The Page and they are celebrating one year of these nights with JRDN & CO. The music begins at 7 p.m. The Taste of Appalachia is at The Pump House Center for the Arts from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The evening includes a tasting of Appalachian wines from three Wineries along the Appalachian wine trail with Ohio harvest snacks and canapes served. Hear from wine makers about the experience of owning a winery during the evening and expect an auction of wine baskets from the participating wineries. My comedy open mic will be at 7:30 p.m. at Stockroom601 in Jackson with closer, Chris Karwoski. This no cover night is 21 and up.
Friday
Head out to Austin Mill Brewing Company for an evening of music with Shady Ray from 7 to 10 p.m. Nolan Collins is back in the Old Capitol Brewing taproom playing country and folk tunes from 7 to 10 p.m.
Saturday

Don’t miss the third show of the Barn on Blain Summer Comedy Series. Southern Ohio Axe Throwing - Chillicothe supports local music by hosting THICC BOIS and Porch Beers at 7:30 p.m. At 1 p.m. head to Old Capitol Brewing for their 3rd annual Oktoberfest celebration where they will release their M?rzen, Kronprinz. Traditional polka will be performed by Die Musikmeisters of Appalachia from 2 to 4 p.m. and The Lunchbox will be out front serving up bratwurst, sauerkraut, German potato salad, and baked beans. Steiner’s Speakeasy presents SugarLoaf Shakedown at 8 p.m.
Looking ahead
On Sept. 20, join a hilarious night of laughs as the Majestic Theatre Chillicothe and LoriG Comedy present Raising the Roof Comedy Night with headliner Jeffrey Jena, hosted by Lori Graves. Local comics include Megan Shope, Bobbie Butchers, Pacey Arledge, Jen Howell, Kylie Dills, JP Swenson, Michelle Gilmore, and Hunter Robinson. Not only will this be a great evening of entertainment, but your seat purchase will help the theatre raise money for its roof project. This show is to support the effort to preserve the historical landmark that has brought entertainment to the community for over 170 years.
Until next time. I hope to see you out laughing.
