Matt Lauer Asked to Choose Between Katie Couric and Meredith Vieira

On Watch What Happens: Live’s aftershow Wednesday, Matt Lauer was asked a difficult question: Meredith or Katie? To be more exact, a caller asked the Today host, “Who do you miss more: Meredith Vieira or Katie Couric?” A diplomatic Lauer answered, “I had different relationships with both, but the nicest thing I can say? I am dear friends with both of them. We still see each other all the time, we have lunch or dinner. I live close to Katie out where I live. I feel like I have great relationships with two ex-wives. So it’s really nice.”

Not buying his line, host Andy Cohen chimed in, “I actually know the answer. And the answer is Meredith. … And I think it’s no dis to Katie Couric that [Lauer] really loves Meredith.”

Lauer agreed that he loves Vieira but was quick to note that he does really have a great relationship with Couric. “The difference is that Meredith and I have a kiss-on-the-lips relationship,” he said. “Meredith is one of those warm people who every time she sees you, she kisses you on the lips. Katie and I have a trading-barbs relationship. All these jokes, one after the other. But really, I love them both.”
