Mark Zuckerberg shares photos from the hospital after injuring himself while training for an MMA fight

Mark Zuckerberg is on the mend.

The Facebook co-founder, 39, took to Instagram on Saturday to share a series of photos of himself from his hospital bed, where he recently underwent surgery. The procedure was done to fix his torn anterior cruciate ligament, commonly referred to as the ACL, which runs diagonally in the middle of the knee.

"Tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it. Grateful for the doctors and team taking care of me. I was training for a competitive MMA fight early next year, but now that's delayed a bit. Still looking forward to doing it after I recover," Zuckerberg wrote.

One of the photos included him pumping his fist in his hospital bed, while a second showed The Social Network subject being tended to by his wife, Priscilla Chan, who wiped his brow. "Thanks to everyone for the love and support," Zuckerberg concluded the post.

Zuckerberg's injury comes just days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast that Zuckerberg backed out of the proposed cage fight between the two. The potential brawl between the two tech industry leaders has long been a topic of discussion, primarily on Musk's behalf.

“He’s chickened out. Puck, puck, puck,” Musk, who owns X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, said, pretending to be a chicken. He also alleged that Italy "was willing to let us use the Coliseum" for their proposed fight.

Musk went on to say that he attempted to visit Zuckerberg's Palo Alto home, which is located near Tesla's California headquarters. However, nobody was home.

“According to a spokesperson, he was traveling,” Musk said. "I just thought it was funny to go, ‘I’m coming over to your house. I’m gonna get ya!'"

Despite Musk primarily speaking about the potential cage fight, Zuckerberg has contributed to the conversation. This summer, he took to Threads to share that "we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on."

"I offered a real date. Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity. Elon won't confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead," Zuckerberg shared. "If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I'm going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously."

Zuckerberg has done just that. In May, he competed in his first jiu-jitsu competition, taking home a gold and silver medal.

Back in July, he posted a photo series with his coach, Dave Camarillo, noting that he's "learned so much about fighting and life from training with you."
