Marco Rubio Is Sorry He Mocked the Size of Trump's Small... Hands
Former Republican candidate and soon-to-be former Senator Marco Rubio issued a tepid apology to presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump for punching "below the belt" during the contentious primary season.
Rubio tried (and failed) to adopt some of Trump's tactic of personal attacks toward the end of his primary run, adopting the old "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" strategy.
"And you know what they say about small hands..." Rubio said, letting his words trail off at a campaign rally. The crowd erupted before he finished his zinger with: "You can't trust them!"
Trump fired back at the next debate, telling the audience, "I guarantee you there's no problem," thus making all of America pause to vomit at the mental image that entered, unbidden, into our collective consciousness.
But, the past is the past, says Rubio. And he regrets making the comment. But if you listen closely, you'll notice he isn't that sorry he attacked Trump personally. Mostly, he seems to regret that his barbs didn't actually take down Trump.
Rubio is just the latest member of the GOP who has had to eat their words. Remember Lindsey Graham's angry cell phone video retaliating against Trump? Now, a distant memory. Bobby Jindal, who called Trump a "narcissist" and "egomaniacal madman," now supports him. And Rick Perry may be the best, most hypocritical former #NeverTrump-er. He gave a huge speech condemning the "cancer of Trump-ism," but recently has become a full-throated supporter, even saying he would be Trump's vice president if asked.
