'Mamma Mia!' star Amanda Seyfried's husband had 'issues' over her working with ex Dominic Cooper
Ever wonder how actors’ significant others don’t seem to mind when they do love scenes with other people as part of their job?
Well, Amanda Seyfried, who just filmed Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again with ex Dominic Cooper, has explained that they actually do mind. At least, her husband, Thomas Sadoski, was not a fan — and he’s an actor himself!
“I think he has the same kind of issues that I would have if we were hanging out with his ex-girlfriend from long ago,” Seyfried told the Mirror. “I think it’s always like, ‘I’m so in love, so that person must be so in love with her too.’ I assume everyone’s in love with Tommy because I’m in love with him. I assume that everybody sees him the way I do. I’d guess he assumed Dominic is in love with me the way he’s in love with me. And it’s just not the case.”
Seyfried, 32, married Sadoski last year. She said it’s “sweet” that her husband, with whom she shares a daughter born the month they married, was concerned.
“I’d rather he be jealous than completely fine with it,” Seyfried said. “He’s been great. He’s very supportive and he loves this movie. They got along absolutely fine when we were shooting.”
Seyfried and Cooper dated for about three years after filming 2008’s Mamma Mia!, in which they play a couple.
Even after their real-life breakup, they stayed friends, good friends, as Seyfried said in a 2013 interview. “He’ll always be in my life, regardless of what his girlfriends or future wife think,” Seyfried said of Cooper in a July 2013 interview with Elle. “I’m never going to be with a guy that can’t deal with my friendship with him.”
After Seyfried and Cooper’s split, he dated actress Ruth Negga (Loving and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) for eight years, before they called it quits in April.
Sadoski was married to casting director Kimberly Hope until 2015. He and Seyfried coupled up while working together on 2017’s The Last Word. The timelines of the relationship might seem a little too close together, but Seyfried said that everything was aboveboard with Sadoski, with whom she had worked on a play a few years before the movie, when both were in other relationships.
“[He] never flirted, never disrespected his wife,” Seyfried told Porter magazine earlier this month. “That was another reason why I thought, later on, that I could marry him.”
Falling in love with Sadoski, she said, was “amazing.”
“It felt healthy and freeing and clean,” Seyfried said. “We can tell the story without any guilt.”
