Madelaine Petsch Shocks Fans by Ditching Her Signature Long Hair for a Choppy Bob with Bangs: 'Oops'

The 'Riverdale' alum debuted the transformation — and shared the BTS of the cut — on Instagram

Madelaine Petsch is in her short hair era.

The 29-year-old Riverdale alum surprised fans by cutting off her signature long, red locks and debuting a shoulder-length style. "Oops chopped my hair off," the actress captioned a Monday, July 15 Instagram post showing off the transformation.

The summer-ready cut features choppy layers and reaches just past the actress' shoulders. She also added piece-y curtain bangs.

Petsch shared some behind-the-scenes moments from the big chop — courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Marc Mena — including a clip of herself making the first cut. "Okay, here we go," she says as she snips off a piece of hair. "That's so scary!" the star adds.

Another shot shows Petsch with her hands covering her face as Mena cuts her hair. The actress capped off the carousel with a photo of her discarded hair in a pile on the floor.

Fans were shocked to see the actress ditch her long hair but filled the comment section with praise for the new look.

"LOVED your long hair but this seriously slays so hard!! Gorgeous!!!" one user wrote.

"Short hair suits her so much!!" said another.

A third wrote, "I never imagined you with short hair, but omg you look so good with this new hair!"

The transformation also drew praise from Petsch's Riverdale costars Camila Mendes and Lili Reinhart.

"I've been considering a chop and this may have just sealed the deal. It's perfect," said Mendes, 30.

Reinhart, 27, wrote, "A new era."

The former castmates recently reunited at the Los Angeles premiere of Petsch's horror movieStrangers: Chapter 1. The actress shared a sweet Instagram post that showed the trio smiling on the red carpet.

"Feeling so incredibly lucky to have my girls through every chapter of life. the strangers premieres only in theaters may 17th!!!!! ????," Petsch wrote, while also adding in the comment section, "luckiest girl in the world ??."

For the May 8 premiere, Petsch wore a black Diesel dress with a plunging neckline while Mendes opted for a nude Altuzarra midi dress and Reinhart wore an elegant black gown with sheer details.
