I Love That For You Canceled, Showtime Issues Statement
Showtime has canceled I Love That For You starring SNL alum Vanessa Bayer after one season. The news comes one year after the eight-episode first season aired on Showtime. In March, Deadline reported an “internal push” at the network to renew the series. However, Showtime opted to pass on a second season.
“I Love That for You has completed its run on Showtime,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement (via Deadline). “We want to thank Vanessa, Jeremy and Jessi, along with the incredible cast and crew for their hard work and wish them the best going forward.”
Annapurna will look to shop the series elsewhere for a potential I Love That For You Season 2.
Who was Involved in I Love That For You?
I Love That For You starred Bayer as Joanna Gold, a childhood cancer survivor who aspires to be a television host on the shopping channel SVN. To keep her job, however, Gold lies about her cancer returning. The series was influenced by Bayer’s own experiences as a childhood leukemia survivor.
Besides Bayer, I Love That For You starred Molly Shannon, Jenifer Lewis, Paul James, Matt Rogers, Ayden Mayeri, and Punam Patel. Recurring cast members included Matt Malloy, Michelle Noh, Johnno Wilson, Bess Armstrong, and Jason Schwartzman.
The official synopsis reads: “Inspired by true events, this hilarious new comedy follows childhood leukemia survivor Joanna Gold (Vanessa Bayer) as she chases her lifelong dream of becoming a home shopping channel host.”
Bayer co-created, co-wrote, and co-executive produced I Love That For You alongside Jeremy Beiler. Additional executive producers included Jessi Klein, Megan Ellison, Michael Showalter, Sue Naegle, Allyce Ozarski, and Jordana Mollick.
