A live-action Disney 'Hercules' remake is in the works from 'Avengers' filmmakers

Disney's going from zero to hero all over again.
A live-action remake of the studio's 1997 animated musical "Hercules" is in development with producers Joe and Anthony Russo, a person familiar with the situation but not authorized to speak publicly about it confirms to USA TODAY. News of the upcoming film first appeared on The Disinsider blog.
The original "Hercules" followed the title demigod as a youngster (voiced by Tate Donovan) who has to prove he's worthy of hanging with the gods on Mount Olympus and runs afoul of the evil fast-talking king of the underworld, Hades (James Woods).
The Russo brothers, who directed two "Captain America" films for Marvel as well as "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Endgame," are producing and David Callaham ("The Expendables," the upcoming "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings") has been hired to write the screenplay.

"Hercules" is the latest in Disney's run of putting live-action spins on their classic animated content: Also in the works is "Cruella," a take on the "101 Dalmatians" villainess starring Emma Stone, and an upcoming redo of "The Little Mermaid" with new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda.
No cast has been announced and it's not known if the new "Hercules" will keep the Alan Menken songs – including "Go the Distance" and "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)" – or go the nonmusical route, like the "Mulan" remake.
