Leonardo DiCaprio praises 'my dear friend' Kate Winslet in touching reunion
Their love will go on.
Leonardo DiCaprio showed up to support Kate Winslet at a screening of her new movie "Lee" on Tuesday in Los Angeles. In an introduction, the Oscar-winning "The Revenant" actor heaped praise on his former "Titanic" co-star, describing her as "my dear friend" and saying her work in the film is "nothing short of transformative."
"I continue to be awe-struck," he said, according to a video shared on YouTube. "I continue to admire your strength, your integrity, your talent and your passion to every single project that you create."
After DiCaprio said the "Mare of Easttown" actress is "one of the great talents of my generation," Winslet came on stage, and the two hugged and kissed.
"I can't even look at Leo now because I'm going to cry," she said.
DiCaprio and Winslet famously played Jack and Rose in James Cameron's blockbuster "Titanic," in which their characters fall in love on the doomed ship.
Winslet's latest film, "Lee," sees her portray real-life war photographer Lee Miller. In his remarks, DiCaprio recalled Winslet telling him about the movie, a passion project of hers, nine years earlier.
After "Titanic," Winslet and DiCaprio worked together again on the 2008 film "Revolutionary Road," and have remained good friends off-screen. In 2021, Winslet told The Guardian she "couldn't stop crying" when she reunited with DiCaprio for the first time in three years.
