Leon Bridges Covers Neil Young’s ‘Helpless’ For ‘Cover Room’ Series From ‘Tonight Show’: Watch
Texas-born soul singer Leon Bridges recently stopped by The Tonight Show to offer up his slow-burning rendition of Neil Young’s “Helpless” for the show’s ongoing “Cover Room” series. In the stripped-down performance accented by piano, acoustic guitar and gospel-like back-up singers, Bridges and his band made their way through a smoldering, gentle cover of the track off Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young‘s 1970 album Deja Vu.
Under the low lights of the back room, Bridges’ rich voice rang out as he sang Young’s naturalistic lyrics, “Blue, blue windows behind the stars/ Yellow moon on the rise/ Big birds flying across the sky/ Throwing shadows on our eyes.”
