Larry Wilmore: White House Correspondents’ Dinner remarks roast Obama, Trump, and more
President Barack Obama may have dropped the mic at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, but Larry Wilmore came prepared with a few wisecracks of his own.
The Nightly Show host took the podium after the president to crack jokes about everything from the current presidential election to the color of Obama’s hair. (“You look terrible, Mr. President,” Wilmore told him. “Your hair is so white it tried to punch me at a Trump rally.”)
Wilmore devoted much of his stage time to ribbing the 2016 presidential candidates, from Hillary Clinton’s encounter with a Black Lives Matter protestor — “I haven’t seen a white lady that upset over being blindsided by a black person since Kelly Ripa” — to whether or not Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer. But Wilmore lobbed most of his insults at Donald Trump, joking, “I can’t understand why everybody treats Donald Trump with kid gloves. Then I remember that small gloves are the only ones that will fit his tiny little baby hands.”
“Guys, I am not surprised Donald Trump is happening to America because I watch movies,” Wilmore added. “And every time there’s a black president something always comes to destroy the earth. Always. It’s true.”
Wilmore also skewered the media, targeting Lester Holt, Wolf Blitzer, Don Lemon and more.
“Welcome to Negro Night here in Washington,” Wilmore said. “Or as Fox News will report, ‘Two thugs disrupt elegant dinner in D.C.’”
