Kristen Bell Opens SAG Awards by Singing a Parody of “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” to Honor Actors
Kristen Bell returned as host of the SAG Awards on Sunday and opened her monologue with a song.
Bell addressed the audience with a tribute that honored the creatives in the room who shared the same dream — to become an actor. “I just want to say everyone in this room, and I do mean everyone, including the camera operators on the side over here and over here, the writers backstage, the director in the booth and all of the actors in their seats. Everyone started out as a kid in ‘Somewhere, comma, Earth,’ going to bed and waking up every morning thinking, ‘It’s going to be me,'” she said. “So yes, Justin Timberlake owes us all a piece of that song. Look for my email petition.”

Bell then explained how the night was “to honor the actor’s journey” before breaking out into singing: “And it leads you to the question, do you want to be an actor?” — performing a tweaked version of the song “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from Frozen, in which she starred as Anna.
Throwback photos of actors like Timothée Chalamet, Harrison Ford, Selena Gomez, Jodie Foster, Elle Fanning and more in their first projects appeared on the screen.
Also in the monologue, the Veronica Mars actress thanked the Los Angeles firefighters who helped with the devastating wildfires that occurred last month.
Later in the ceremony, Bell reunited with her Forgetting Sarah Marshall co-star Jason Segel, who re-enacted the scene in the 2008 film where Segel comes out of the bathroom wearing nothing but a towel and says, “I got a surprise for you,” while opening his towel. Bell jokingly responded: “That doesn’t really have the same effect with a towel over your pants.”
Bell also returned to her role as the narrator of the beloved series Gossip Girl, reading: “Hey everyone, Gossip Girl here. One of my sources, Lainey86, sends me this: Spotted at table 8, Jeff Goldblum has a wicked appetite and a peek behind the curtain reveals he likes his green eggs with ham. And look who it is, not-so-lonely boy Timothée Chalamet sitting next to a hot steak, medium rare, au poivre, with a side of broccoli. Leighton, none of this is gossip, it’s just all about food!” To which, Leighton Meester, who played Blair Waldorf in the series, replied, “I’m sorry, I’m just really hungry,” and took a bite out of a sandwich.
Sunday marked Bell’s second time hosting the SAG Awards. She was nominated for best actress in a comedy series for the rom-com series Nobody Wants This but lost to Jean Smart of Hacks.
The 31st annual SAG Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles and streamed live on Netflix. See what stars hit the red carpet and the winners list.
