King Charles, royal family (not Harry) together on Buckingham Palace balcony: See the photos
All eyes were on the royal family as they stepped out on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after the coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey in London. Top of mind for spectators around the globe: Will Prince Harry join his father and family members?
The answer was no. Harry, who left his official duties as a member of the British royal family in 2020, didn't make it onto the balcony with his father. Instead, Charles was flanked by his other son, heir to the throne Prince William, the king's wife, Queen Camilla, and other members of the royal family.
The new king and queen walked out onto the balcony to greet crowds and watch a flyover by the Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force’s aerobatics team, who streaked past and left red, white and blue trails in the sky. The royals greeting spectators from this particular terrace has become a tradition for the family over the last century, and has led to many iconic photos.
Charles and Camilla were the first on the balcony, followed by the Pages of Honor that served Charles during the ceremony and other members of the royal family, including Prince William, Princess Kate, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Edward, Duchess Sophie, Princess Anne and others.
Commentators on the BBC were quick to point out that the "working family" made it onto the balcony. In other words, "those whose day-to-day job is supporting the monarchy." Charles' brother Prince Andrew was also absent from the balcony. Andrew was stripped of his royal duties by the late Queen Elizabeth II after controversy over his relationship with accused sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, in addition to allegations against Andrew himself.
The balcony moment marked the end of Charles' official appearances on Saturday. Coronation festivities will continue on Sunday, including a concert featuring Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.
