Killing Castro Cast: Al Pacino, Xolo Maridue?a, & More Join Historical Drama

According to Deadline, Oscar winner Al Pacino and Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridue?a have signed on to join the Killing Castro cast for the upcoming historical drama titled Killing Castro.

In addition to Pacino and Maridue?a, KiKi Layne (The Old Guard), Diego Boneta (Rock of Ages), Alexander Ludwig (Vikings), Ron Livingston (Band of Brothers), Kendrick Sampson (Insecure), Nicole Beharie (42), Logan Marshall-Green (Upgrade) and Titus Welliver (Bosch). The project centers around Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro’s visit to New York City, where an rookie FBI agent gets tasked to protect Castro from getting assassinated.

What to expect in Killing Castro?

Based on true events, Killing Castro will be directed by Eif Rivera from a screenplay written by Leon Hendrix, Thomas DeGrezia and Colin Bateman. This project will serve as River’s feature directorial debut. Executive producers are Boneta, Bateman, John Takis, Rudy Langlais, Josh Glick, Sam Slater, Leon Hendrix, Piers Tempest, Joseph Ingrassia and Nick Ham.

“Set in 1960 shortly after winning the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro travels to New York City to deliver his first speech to the United Nations,” reads the synopsis. “When met with hostility at his original hotel, Castro meets Malcolm X who invites him to stay at famed Hotel Theresa in Harlem. With the eyes of the world watching, a rookie undercover FBI agent originally assigned to investigate Malcolm X suddenly becomes the FBI’s most valuable asset, and is tasked with keeping Castro from being eliminated by the CIA and the Italian mafia, by any means necessary.”

The film is produced by Brad Feinstein for Romulus Entertainment, Christina Weiss Lurie for Fourth and Twenty-Eight Films. Production is slated to take place in Newark, New Jersey.
