Kelly Osbourne pays tribute to BFF Amy Winehouse 8 years after her death: 'Not a day goes by that I don’t miss you'
It's been eight years since Amy Winehouse died, but she remains in the hearts and minds of her friends and fans.
Kelly Osbourne — a close friend of the troubled singer, who died of alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011 — shared an old photo of them hanging out outside The Roxy in West Hollywood, Calif., in 2007. The caption was a direct message to the soulful songstress behind hits including “Rehab”: “Not a day goes by that I don’t miss you #lul.”
The women were close beyond clubbing. Osbourne labeled Winehouse her “best friend,” and they were also roommates. The pair would make red carpet appearances together — and support one another’s projects. After Winehouse’s death — at her home in Camden, London — Osbourne was quoted as saying, “I was speaking to her last night” on the phone and “she seemed absolutely fine. I don’t understand how this could have happened.” She also lashed out at Winehouse “friends” who spoke negatively about the star following her death.
In Osbourne’s 2017 memoir There Is No F---ing Secret, she said Winehouse was the “mischievous ringleader” of her social group. “If Amy said to do something, people would do it,” Osbourne wrote. “And she’d easily convince someone to let us have a lock in after closing hours, or step behind the bar to start serving drinks herself.”
Another recollection in the book was Winehouse helping Osbourne get over a married star she had been having an on-off relationship with for several years.
Like Winehouse, Osbourne has struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol. In May, she was nearly two years sober, which has “completely changed my life,” she said.
Osbourne’s tribute post to Winehouse has gotten a lot of love, including from singer/songwriter Dionne Bromfield, who was Winehouse’s goddaughter and protégé. Bromfield commented to Osbourne, “Every time she spoke to me about you she always had the biggest smile!”
Bromfield also posted her own tribute to Winehouse — and here are some of the others today:
