Kelly Clarkson says she can’t take credit for Taylor Swift advice
Kelly Clarkson visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Sunday night, where she talked about the recent advice she gave Taylor Swift. In June, Swift’s back catalog for all 6 of her multiplatinum albums was purchased by famed music manager Scooter Braun, and Swift was not happy about it.
At the time, Swift posted a message on Tumblr about how Braun bullied her out of owning her own back catalog. In response, Clarkson tweeted, “Just a thought, U should go in & re-record all the songs that U don’t own the masters on exactly how U did them but put brand new art & some kind of incentive so fans will no longer buy the old versions. I’d buy all of the new versions just to prove a point.”

While on The Tonight Show, Clarkson revealed she actually got the advice from her mother-in-law, Reba McEntire. McEntire re-recorded and released all of her original songs in order to take ownership of the catalog.
Taylor thought Kelly’s Reba-inspired advice was pretty good and last month told CBS News she plans to re-record her albums.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.
