Kehlani Already Has More New Music On the Way With ‘While We Wait 2’ Mixtape
Kehlani announced on Wednesday (Aug. 21) she’s finally dropping her While We Wait 2 mixtape next Wednesday, Aug. 28.
The cover art features the singer staring directly at their own reflection, a nod to the artwork for the original While We Wait mixtape where their reflection in a small circular mirror took center stage. They teased While We Wait 2 last month by posting an Instagram photo of a notebook page with the title written on it. A week later, she posted “2 week tape done at home. now we mix. ready?” while covering up the tracklist that seemingly features 12 songs.

Kehlani released While We Wait on Feb. 22, 2019 via Atlantic Records, and the nine-track project included collaborations with Musiq Soulchild (“Footsteps”), Dom Kennedy (“Nunya”), Ty Dolla $ign (“Nights Like This”) and 6lack (“RPG”). While We Wait reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200. She performed “Nights Like This” at the top of her NPR Tiny Desk performance three weeks ago.
While We Wait 2 will arrive two months after the singer’s fourth studio album Crash, which reached No. 25 on the Billboard 200. Kehlani’s Crash World Tour starts next month on Sept. 4 at Minneapolis’ Armory and will go through major cities such as Chicago, Toronto, Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles before the Bay Area native wraps it up on Nov. 2 at San Francisco’s Chase Center.
Meanwhile, “Kehlani” is currently climbing the Billboard charts — that is, the viral song by Jordan Adetunji. It’s currently at No. 25 (chart dated Aug. 24) on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit No. 1 on TikTok Billboard Top 50 last week. The namesake singer is featured on the official remix.
