Ke Huy Quan gets his John Wick on in ‘Love Hurts’ trailer [Watch]

In the future, everyone will get their own “John Wick”-esque action comedy. The next person to get one is Ke Huy Quan, and the movie is “Love Hurts,” in which Quan plays a former hitman who comes out of retirement for one last mission. On Tuesday, Universal released a trailer for the film, which opens in theaters early next year. It features Quan’s impressive stunt work scored by the ironically easy-listening tones of Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” 

In his first lead role since winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his career-restoring performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a mild-mannered real estate agent with a secret past as an assassin that he’s trying to put behind him. Marvin is forced out of hiding when his former partner, Rose (Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose), whom he left for dead before he started his new life, finds him and tells him that his crime boss brother Knuckles (Daniel Wu) is coming to kill him.

The film is the directorial debut of Jonathan Eusebio, a veteran fight choreographer and stunt coordinator who worked on three “John Wick” movies, several Marvel movies, and “The Fall Guy.” He was the second-unit director on “Deadpool 2,” “Violent Night,” and “Birds of Prey.” “Love Hurts” is produced by David Leitch, director of the first “John Wick” movie and producer of “John Wick”-influenced movies like “Atomic Blonde” and “Nobody,” and his company 87North. It’s written by Matthew Murray & Josh Stoddard and Luke Passmore. The cast also includes Super Bowl winner-turned-in-demand comedic actor Marshawn Lynch, Lio Tipton, Mustafa Shakir, Rhys Darby, and Sean Astin. 

Quan’s other upcoming projects include Netflix’s “The Electric State” and a voice role in “Zootopia 2.” 

“Love Hurts” hits theaters on Feb. 7, 2025.
