Kathleen Turner falls ill during Ogunquit musical, misses final performances

Aug. 17—Award-winning actress Kathleen Turner missed the final three performances of "A Little Night Music" this season at the Ogunquit Playhouse after becoming ill during a show Friday.

The star of "Romancing the Stone" and "Prizzi's Honor" felt ill during the 2 p.m. matinee Friday and had to leave the stage, playhouse spokesperson Carol Chiavetta said.

Her understudy, Jennifer Allen, stepped in for the rest of the show, as well as performances at 8 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Chiavetta said.

Turner, 70, starred as Madame Armfeldt in the Stephen Sondheim musical that won six Tonys when it opened on Broadway in 1973, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The show opened in Ogunquit on July 18 and closed with two final performances on Saturday.

Chiavetta said Saturday evening that she had no further information about Turner's health.

A two-time Golden Globe winner, Turner also has been nominated for an Academy Award, Grammy Award and two Tonys.
