Josh Brolin's 4 Kids: All About Trevor, Eden, Westlyn and Chapel
Josh Brolin shares his older son and daughter with his ex-wife Alice Adair and two daughters with his wife Kathryn Boyd Brolin
Josh Brolin may have played major Marvel villain Thanos but in real life, he is a doting father of four.
The Avengers star married his first wife, Alice Adair, in 1988. That same year, the pair welcomed their son, Trevor. Their daughter, Eden, followed in 1994, and they divorced shortly after. Despite separating, the co-parents remained close.
“She was the mother of my children,” he told The Guardian in 2014. “I’m still best friends with her. I ended up having two amazing kids, so it turned out okay.”
Josh remarried again in 2004 to actress Diane Lane, however, the two split nine years later. The same year, Josh began dating his personal assistant, Kathryn Boyd Brolin. The couple tied the knot in 2016, and two years later, they welcomed their first child together, daughter Westlyn Reign. Their second daughter, Chapel Grace, was born in 2020.
“I will have lived a lifetime of children and that’s wonderful to me,” he said in a 2021 interview with Fatherly. In that same interview, Kathryn praised her husband’s parenting skills, telling the outlet, “I’ve seen him morph into this new father figure and immediately fall into this beautiful place caring for this new baby. He’s naturally so happy around children.”
Here’s everything to know about Josh Brolin’s kids, Trevor, Eden, Westlyn and Chapel.
Trevor Mansur Brolin, 35
Trevor Mansur Brolin was born on June 26, 1988, to Josh and his first wife, Alice. At the time, Josh was only 20 while Alice was 22.
“I was getting ready to have my first kid. And everyone told me I shouldn’t,” he told The Guardian. “I was an idiot. A 19-year-old guy riding on a Harley-Davidson, so embarrassingly dumb. But she got pregnant and that’s what happened.”
He continued, “That was a good year. That was my favorite year. It was the year my whole life changed. I had kids and I started doing theatre.”
Despite coming from a well-established acting family — his grandfather is James Brolin – Trevor decided not to go into the field. However, he did stay in the entertainment industry with his job at Revel, a venue offering everything from live music to game nights in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He’s also a talented artist, and his dad regularly shares images of his artwork on social media. Josh even got a tattoo of a rabbit seemingly designed by Trevor.
In June 2022, Josh posted a sweet birthday shout-out for his son on Instagram. “Trevor, my first born. I cannot express the depths of my respect for you,” he wrote next to a photo of his only son as a child. “I don’t know anybody like you and I love it that way. You’ve never seen things in a way that hasn’t moved or awed me, and to be your dad, man, is the greatest lottery I could ever win. I love you so much. Happy Birthday.”
Eden Brolin, 29
Josh and Alice welcomed their second child together, daughter Eden Brolin, on Nov. 30, 1994. The couple went on to divorce that same year but remained close friends and co-parents.
Speaking to Fatherly, the actor explained how he managed a burgeoning Hollywood career with fatherhood. “When I had my older kids, when they were young, I was really into it. I was always into being a dad. But I was always worried about not working,” he said. “The day after Eden was born, I was on a plane for New York to do a pilot. It was horrible.”
Eden grew up in Los Angeles and quickly followed in her father’s footsteps. At 14, she made her acting debut in the short film, X. She has appeared in several movies and TV shows including Yellowstone.
Along with TV and movies, Eden has a strong interest in music. She’s been playing piano since the age of 7 and she’s the lead singer of indie pop band Atta Boy.
On May 1, 2022, she and fellow actor Cameron Crosby got married after three years together. Josh announced the news the next day on Instagram, calling it “the greatest, most intimate wedding ceremony I’ve ever seen.”
Next to a photo of him and Eden on the way to the ceremony, he shared a lengthy and heartfelt post. “My daughter last night, my God, and her groom: awe,” he wrote. “I am so grateful for this time and this place to be able to have this time on. There are the kindest people out there. I have little kids to raise again, entire lives to monitor and be sensitive to.”
Continuing, he reflected on being able to give her away on her big day. “I stayed and walked my daughter over a grassy countryside to a commitment — a groom with tears falling down his cheeks — and I melted with it, into it," he added.
Westlyn Reign Brolin, 5
Two years after Josh and his wife, Kathryn, said "I do," the pair welcomed their first child together. Westlyn Reign Brolin was born on Nov. 3, 2018.
Josh announced the news with an Instagram video of his daughter. “I would like to introduce our little girl Westlyn Reign Brolin (Bean). Mama Kathryn was stellar during this miracle birth and Bean is a flawless gem through and through,” he wrote, adding, “We are blessed to the core."
After her birth, Josh took an extended paternity leave to spend time with the newborn. “He dropped everything,” his father James told PEOPLE in April 2019, adding that Josh was doing “nothing but diapering for three months.”
Josh confirmed as much, telling Fatherly, “This time I took 17 months off to be with Kathryn through the whole pregnancy and until the baby was four months old.”
Since then, Josh has continued to showcase his hands-on approach to parenting. The actor even went as far as sitting on a tiny pink toilet to help potty train his daughter in May 2021. He shared the hilarious moment in an Instagram photo of himself crouched on the small toilet while Westlyn stood next to him, writing, “There’s nothing like the power of example.”
Over a year later, the Dune star marked his daughter's 4th birthday with a photo of his two little girls on Instagram. “Happy 4th to our Lil Bean," he wrote. "You move mountains in us, girlie; cultivate utterly majestic worlds with your imagination; and make us so simply giggle when we least expect it. Papa Bear loves you crazy train."
Now 5, Westlyn is already showing signs of interest in the entertainment industry. In May 2023, Josh shared a sweet series of photos of her first dance recital on his Instagram Story. "So proud of my little girl on her first dance recital ??????????," he wrote across one photo, showing Westlyn wearing a sparkly, purple leotard and smiling for the camera.
Chapel Grace Brolin, 3
In July 2020, Josh and Kathryn announced that they were expecting baby number two. Their daughter, Chapel Grace Brolin, was born that Christmas, on Dec. 25, 2020.
A couple of days after her birth, Josh shared the special meaning behind her name on Instagram. “Everywhere we have traveled the one place Kathryn and I always found a great solace in were chapels,” he wrote.
“Not being particularly religious, but a God feeling heavily inundating our lives, chapels have always been the sanctuaries where we felt most connectedly free to give thanks," he continued. "Chapel Grace is, to us, a manifestation of that celestial feeling that was always felt as we meandered and knelt.”

Shortly before her first birthday, Josh shared a sweet black-and-white photo of him and Chapel on Instagram with the caption, “My littlest, my diamond heart. Your smiles are feral and your chuckle is toddler eruptive.” He continued with a lengthy tribute to his youngest child, calling her “a membrane of unadulterated joy."
When Chapel was 2 years old, she, her mom and her big sister Westlyn joined Josh on location as he filmed Dune: Part 2.
"We climbed the dunes every day. It was awesome," he said during an appearance on Good Morning America in February 2024. "When you first end up in the desert, you feel so insignificant because we were 2 and a half hours south of Abu Dhabi. So it was a hundred kilometers of nothing but sand."
