Jonathan Majors “Heartbroken” Over Marvel Casting Robert Downey Jr. For ‘Avengers’ & Moving Away From Kang

Jonathan Majors shares his thoughts on Marvel Studios announcing Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villain Dr. Doom.

The announcement at San Diego’s Comic-Con confirmed that Marvel was scrapping Avengers: Kang Dynasty, which was to focus on Majors’ villain introduced in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

“Yeah, heartbroken. Of course,” Majors told TMZ after they asked him if he was hurt over Marvel’s decision to pivot away from his character. “I love Kang. Dr. Doom is wicked, though.”

The TMZ reporter noted that despite their past legal troubles, Downey Jr. and Ezra Miller at DC Studios were given opportunities to play their roles on the big screen.

“I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love, and that Mr. Miller has gotten the same treatment,” he said. “And that they’re being allowed to work their art and be creative at that level… I didn’t really get that.”

When asked if he would return to the MCU as Kang, Majors said, “Hell yeah! Hell yeah! Hell yeah! I love him. I love Kang. If that’s what the fans want, if that’s what Marvel wants, then let’s roll. Hell yeah.”

Majors was arrested in March 2023 on assault and harassment charges brought up by his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. The actor was found guilty on two misdemeanor counts and was sentenced to probation and to participate in a one-year domestic violence treatment program.
