Jonathan Groff Confirms Bobby Darin Broadway Musical For Spring 2025
The rumored Bobby Darin Broadway bio-musical starring Jonathan Groff is on: Just In Time, to be directed by Alex Timbers, will begin previews at Circle in the Square Theatre on Friday, March 28, 2025, with an opening night set for the following month on Wednesday, April 23.
“Bobby Darin was a supernova,” Groff said in a statement today. “He blazed his way through every corner of the entertainment industry, but his enormous talent, charisma, and pure genius were most on display when he was letting it rip in front of a crowd. This primal passionate love affair he had with the audience was the inspiration for our show’s conceit.”

In addition to playing the singer of such hits as “Beyond the Sea,” “Splish Splash,” “Dream Lover,” “Mack the Knife” and the title song, Groff will serve as a producer on Just In Time. Said Groff, “Alex Timber’s distinctive ability to make going to the theater an unforgettable event and Bobby’s signature musicality and explosive fleeting life make Broadway the perfect place to experience the story and essence of this once in a lifetime talent.”
Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre, producers said today, will be transformed into an immersive night club setting. The production, in addition to Groff, will feature a cast of 16 and a live on-stage big band.
“Bobby Darin worked across many genres of music, but he was most alive performing in intimate nightclubs,” said Timbers, the Moulin Rouge! director who developed Just In Time. “And so, it was vital to Jonathan and myself that we stage Just In Time at Circle in the Square. This is where we could build an environmental nightclub setting including a live, onstage big band that will allow the same sort of intimacy and electrifying audience connection that both Bobby and Jonathan are known for.”
Full casting and creative team for Just In Time will be announced soon.
The musical, produced by Tom Kirdahy, Robert Ahrens and John Frost, will feature a book by Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver, music supervision and arrangements by Andrew Resnick, and choreography by Shannon Lewis. The musical is based on an original concept by Ted Chapin.
“We are honored to celebrate the legacy of the great Bobby Darin with the inimitable Jonathan Groff under the visionary direction of Alex Timbers,” the producers said in a joint statement.
The musical will be Groff’s return to Broadway following his Tony-winning performance in last season’s smash Merrily We Roll Along. His other Broadway credits include Hamilton, Spring Awakening, and In My Life, while Off Broadway credits include Little Shop of Horrors and Hair, among others. TV and film credits include Mindhunter, Looking, Glee, Hamilton, Frozen and Frozen II, The Matrix Resurrections, and Knock at the Cabin.
